Views of Life Behind the Shop

Things I Am Enjoying These Days:

A reading light that clamps to your book
Grinding coffee beans by hand
The satisfaction of giving the dog a thorough brushing
A clean desk
Lemon scented soap
A three year old hand in mine

It’s been both busy and slow, it seems. I guess time sort of does weird things when there’s a new baby, but it still feels like we’re settling in after the holidays, discovering surprises unearthed in the aftermath.

We’ve been restocking, and cleaning, and re-organizing shelves to fit inventory on. Since I had the baby, I haven’t been too involved in a lot of the day to day operations of the shop, but now that the baby is settling into her own routine, it’s been nice to wander the shop and help unpack boxes and see what’s going on. To be honest, I mostly just water the plants.

We had a warm Saturday in the midst of all these frigid temperatures, and I took the babies for a walk. It was so warm, in fact, that I just wore my coat over my dress and my Birkenstocks, while wearing the baby in a wrap on my chest.

I suppose I looked a little strange, as I got a lot of stares from strangers, and, even more tellingly, awkward smiles and averted glances from customers I happened to pass on the street on Carlaw, who I think were trying to spare me the embarrassment of being recognized while wearing such a bizarre outfit. Caleb was also in a slightly mismatched outfit, which is usually forgiven in a child, but when the accompanying adult looks disheveled as well, people start to wonder about our small caravan, slowly walking along, waving at ambulances.

I would really appreciate it if you would stop posting pictures of that superior labor portfolio. I keep wanting to buy it even thought I have no need for it.

      Actually, you do need it.
      Very much.
I thought they would be a β€œ decorative” purchase.
I bought mine last year. Now i use it all the time.
      For everything.
Each time i leave the house, it comes with me.

Trust me. You’ll love this portfolio.

I’m so glad to hear you are enjoying your portfolio!! When we first designed it, it was truly something that I felt was “missing” in my own life, but of course who knows how other people are going to feel about it. It’s the highest compliment to hear that an item you are able to provide is truly useful (and beautiful!). I hope you enjoy it for many, many years to come.

At the end of a dismal day, the photo of your radiant baby shot me to the stars. Thank you! More please and keep on writing….

What a compliment! Thank you so much. In the midst of sometimes much chaos, every once in a while there’s a moment that makes it worth it all.

Well clearly Chicken has the most fantastic kitty toes in Toronto. I’m sure I read that somewhere.

Winter seems to have a new definition: here in NB it’s -15c today and +4 tomorrow. That in itself tends to drive Canadian Winter Fashion.

Chicken’s about as handsome as they get, although he’ll only participate in a photo if he suspects he’s ruining something.

Tell me about it! I never know how to dress to go outside, with some days here going up to +5 and others when I’m glad for my short commute. πŸ™‚

Baby is Naomi! We called her baby while we took our time deciding (it was mostly me being indecisive!) and I think I’ve just gotten used to calling her that πŸ™‚

I’m so glad to hear it! We didn’t know exactly how this new collaboration with Superior Labor would go when we first started, but it’s so wonderful that you’re enjoying it. Pen rolls are coming mid-March!

      And thank you! πŸ™‚
