I’m thrilled to announce that on Sunday, February 26th, we’re going to by hosting our first pop-up shop and workshop with PaperPlusCloth!
PaperPlusCloth is run by Rowena, and is an online shop that specialises in hard to find washi tapes, stickers and other crafty supplies from Japan, Korea, and all over the world. Rowena herself is wonderful, a journaler and crafter and Traveler’s Notebook user, so a kindred spirit if there ever was one.
The pop-up shop is free, and will be running from 12:00 – 5:00 on February 26th. You can drop in any time to take a look at some of the beautiful products that will be on display. Rowena will be bringing a wide selection of her goods, and I can’t wait to see all of the designs in person. If you’ve never understood what all the fuss about washi tape is, now is your chance to find out.
Normally PaperPlusCloth sells online only, with a few events a year where you can see and hold the products in person, so this is a great opportunity to check out some gorgeous washi tape and stamps.
You might know that I have a small problem with washi tape accumulation (apparently we are missing a box of Santa washi tapes that I’m claiming is lost somewhere in the warehouse and everyone else is claiming is hidden deep in my stationery cupboards), so you can bet I’m looking forward to stocking up.
The 3 hr workshop is $80, from 11:00-2:00 on the same day, Sunday, February 26th, and will lead you through creating a few beautiful and high quality accessories for your journals and notebooks. There is limited space for this, and you can register online here or stop by the shop for more information.
Here’s a description of the workshop:
Wonder Pens, Toronto’s top destination for specialty fountain pens, inks and stationery is opening its doors on Sunday, February 26th for a Paper Plus Cloth collaboration. Together we will be hosting a journaling focused pop up and workshop that you will not want to miss. Whether you are a seasoned journaler, a beginner or are just curious about starting a journal, you’ll find the information, supplies and inspiration to get started or continue on your journey.
Within the Wonder Pen’s beautiful space on 250 Carlaw, we will be setting up shop in what I can only describe as a match made in stationery heaven. We will be bringing with us a vast collection of artisanal washi tapes from around the world in addition to stickers, stamps, tools and paper products for your journaling or snail mail needs. Tea and light snacks will be served and it will be a wonderful opportunity to get to know this creative community.
We will also be running a fun 3hr hands on workshop where participants will get to work on crafting high quality accessories for their journals or planners. All supplies will be provided and spaces will be limited, based on a first come, first serve basis.
Workshop will run from 11am – 2pm. We will be hand crafting some beautiful accessories for use with journals, planners or notebooks, to gift or to keep.
Leather Monkey Fist Book Marker:
There is quite a bit of story and history behind the Monkey Fist knot and over the years, it’s initial purpose has expanded into many modern uses. We will be fashioning this special knot into a handsome book mark so convenient for marking notable pages. You will learn to customize it’s length to your specific journal/book/planner.
The craft of Mizuhiki dates back to 607AD and has since evolved into a tradition of knotting Japanese paper twine into ornamental knots to adorn gifts as a symbol of affection, warmth and togetherness. Recently the Traveler’s Company produced beautiful Mizuhiki knots as charms for the elastic closure on their Traveler’s Notebooks. You will learn to make your own charms to be used as you like whether with colorful elastics to keep notebooks and their contents closed and together, or to adorn your own gifts (or snail mail). The possibilities are many.
Personalized Planner Clips:
Planner clips are a great way to mark multiple pages in a book, notebook, planner or journal. There are endless ways to customize and personalize these clips. We will be working on two particular designs that are both stylish and functional.
All supplies will be provided as well as light snacks and refreshments.
Workshop participants will also have exclusive access to sample special journaling supplies for use in their personal notebooks during the free work period.
Class size will be kept between 18-20 participants so that we can work comfortably and leave time for great discussion.
Hope to see you there! (And I’ll try to leave some washi tape left for the rest of you…)
